Apple Launches New AirTag With Longer Range, Louder Sound, and Better Finding Features
March 2, 2026
Apple has officially introduced a new version of AirTag, making it easier than ever to find everyday items like keys, wallets, bags, and luggage. The updated AirTag offers a longer finding range, a louder speaker, and more powerful Precision Finding—all while keeping the same price as the original.
Since its first release in 2021, AirTag has helped people around the world recover lost items, from misplaced luggage to valuable personal belongings. Apple says the new AirTag builds on that success with meaningful upgrades that improve everyday use.

Easier and Faster to Find Lost Items
The new AirTag is powered by Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, the same technology used in the latest iPhones and Apple Watches. This allows users to locate their AirTag from up to 50% farther away using Precision Finding.
Bluetooth range has also been improved, making it easier to detect items that are farther away. For the first time, users can use Apple Watch (Series 9 and later, or Ultra models) to find an AirTag, getting directions right from their wrist.
The AirTag’s speaker is now 50% louder, helping users hear it from up to twice the distance compared to the previous version. A new chime sound also makes it easier to spot items hidden under cushions, in bags, or around the house.
Better Help Recovering Lost Luggage
The new AirTag works with Apple’s Share Item Location feature, which lets users temporarily share an item’s location with trusted partners like airlines. Apple has partnered with over 50 airlines, allowing customer service teams to help locate delayed or lost luggage more quickly.
Airlines using this feature report fewer baggage delays and a major reduction in permanently lost luggage. Shared access is secure, temporary, and automatically ends after seven days—or sooner if the item is found.

Strong Privacy and Safety Protections
Apple continues to prioritize privacy with AirTag. Location data is fully encrypted and never stored on the AirTag itself. Only the owner can see where their AirTag is—Apple and others cannot access this information.
To prevent misuse, AirTag includes protections against unwanted tracking, such as alerts on both Apple and non-Apple devices and frequently changing Bluetooth identifiers. AirTag is designed only to track objects, not people or pets.
Price and Availability
The new AirTag is available now at the same price as before:
$29 for one AirTag
$99 for a four-pack
